Someone brought this subject up on a local forum awhile back, of course the narrow minded shot him down. He had some good points though. Does the Oaks really belong in a retirement community? How many of the retiree's use it? How many people from Elliot Lake work there? Is it really a viable source of employment for Elliot Laker's?
Most of the people going through the Oaks are from other cities. There are also a number who decide to stay in Elliot Lake afterwards. The people who are serious about recovery go back to their lives elsewhere, the ones looking for a free ride plant their asses here and live on welfare.
Did you know that upon release from a treatment center you qualify for a start up check from welfare? Yes, $900, plus your first months check of course. No wonder they stay.

Hi there, I just noticed this add while looking for The Oak's to have my self admitted in. And it comes as a surprise to me that an individual or individuals would like to call Elliot Lake aka Wrinkle City their home. Although I do agree with you, about the placement of the facity being well lets say, out of place. Well if I do end up going there for treatment, you can guarantee I will not be staying when it is my time to high tail it.
Oh and if your really worried about welfarees staying in Elliot lake becuase the government gives them a graduation gift, lol, then I would edit your post and take that out of there.
Wishing you all the best!
You should be thankful for the Oaks centre and the clients when they stay in your community because they are the people serving your coffee, working and spending in your stores, servicing the area, and driving you around. Do you really think that a retirement community tax contributions are paying for the OW, and do you think is that easy to apply for the fund?
They aren't working or serving or servicing anyone you idiot. They're living on OW so yeah, it must be easy to apply for. What fucking planet are you from anyway?
